Our School

Welcome to Cinnabar Valley Elementary School

Our school opened its doors to students in 2001. Nestled in the heart of Cinnabar Valley, the school currently serves over 300 students, with the expectation of continued growth in the coming years. Known as the “Valley Vipers”, our school has a rich history of strong academic, athletic, and artistic achievement for students.

Cinnabar Valley is a PBIS school, meaning that we are actively teaching Positive Behaviour to students, working on a system of intervention and supports. Part of the system includes recognizing students with Valley Viper Tickets when they demonstrate positive behaviours. These tickets become part weekly and monthly draws, allowing for further recognition through our announcements and monthly assemblies. Our school matrix for positive behaviour expectation is included on the website.

“The Golden Rule” – treat others the way you want to be treated, became a school focus in 2017-2018.  Moving forward, we will expand on this universal principle by using the book, “The Six Cedar Trees” by Margot Landahl and Celestine Aleck.  Students will be working in multi-age groupings throughout the 2018-2019 school year, learning the indigenous characteristics of the animal they are assigned.

As with PBIS, the work on the Golden Rule and the Six Cedar Trees, ties in with students learning about themselves as learners through exploration of the Core Competencies (Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Personal Awareness and Responsibility, Positive Personal and Cultural Identity, and Social Responsibility).

We welcome all of you to our wonderful learning community! We hope you enjoy your stay!
